The Ice Wanderer and Other Stories is a collection of six stories that has already been recognized with an Eisner Award nomination in the Best U.S. Edition of International Material – Japan category. The Eisner nomination, Taniguchi's second in two years, comes despite Fanfare's issues with distribution that made this book a rare find in better comics shops. With their distribution issues resolved, Fanfare has promised that it should be easier to find this notable graphic novel in more stores and online booksellers soon.

The title story, The Ice Wanderer is based on an unfinished short story by Jack London, who is also a character in the story. Other stories include Kaiyose-Jima, a touching story about a long-lasting friendship between two kids in rural Japan, Shokaro, a young artist's experiences in a quirky rooming house in Tokyo and Return to the Sea, a diver's quest to see the undersea graveyard of the whales.
