At 5' 7", Risa Koizumi is the tallest girl in her 10th grade class. Meanwhile, 5' 1" Atsushi Otani is the shortest boy in school. When this mismatched pair decides to help each other find dates, they're perplexed when their efforts only result in their classmates thinking that they're the couple in love.
Love*Com is not about finding love on the Internet, but is an abbreviation of its full title, "Lovely Complex," referring to Risa and Atsushi's complex about their heights. This romantic comedy follows the two friends as they deal with people's perceptions of their 'height problems'.
For example, Risa has a crush on Suzuki, a tall but shy boy in her class. Atsushi is interested in Chiharu, Risa's close friend. When the two try to set up a double date to pair up with their objects of affection, Risa and Atsushi inadvertently have so much fun together, the date results in Suzuki and Chiharu emerging as a couple instead.
With their classmates, friends and teachers all thinking that they're sweet on each other, will Risa and Atsushi ever find the boyfriend / girlfriend of their dreams?
Main CharactersRisa Koizumi
Risa has always been tall for her age, and now that she's a 5' 7" sophomore in high school, she feels like a giant amongst her peers. Ironically, her last name means "little spring," although she feels anything but little. Risa is outgoing and fun-loving, but that doesn't stop her from feeling like a total geek around guys.
15-year old Atsushi is 5' 1" but he tries not to let his lack of height get him down too much. He plays on the basketball team, and gets props for being pretty good at the sport despite his height. Atushi's last name, Otani means "big valley," although Risa teases him by calling him "Kotani," which means "little valley." Atsushi's a good-natured boy who has a lot in common with Risa, but he treats her more like a sister. He too is confused by everyone's insistence that he and Risa are already a couple in love.
Cute and shy Chiharu is one of Risa's best friends. When Atsushi confesses to Risa that he has a crush on Chiharu, a double date is immediately planned to nudge this crush into the land of romance. Too bad Cupid's arrows miss their mark, as Chiharu develops feelings for Suzuki instead.
Tall, handsome and a little awkward, Suzuki recently transferred to Risa and Atsushi's class. When Risa figures out that Suzuki is taller than her, she immediately develops a crush on him. To her great disappointment, Risa later discovers that even taller-than-her Suzuki doesn't regard her as a girl because of her height.
