In High School Debut Volume 1, we meet Haruna, a lovable 10th grade tomboy. Haruna spent her intermediate school years giving it her all on the softball team. Now that she's in high school, Haruna has set her sights on her new goal: Getting a boyfriend.

Trouble is, finding romance isn't as easy as she thought, especially since she has zero fashion sense and she's completely clueless about what guys look for in a girl. The dating tips she's read in magazines just don't quite work for her and her attempts to meet guys by hanging out a popular pick-up spots has come up empty. So what's a girl to do?

Since coaching helped her be the best softball player she could be, Haruna decides to find a coach to get her dating skills to the next level. She enlists the help of one of the cutest boys in school, Yoh. Yoh agrees, but on one condition: she can't fall in love with him.
