August 15, 2009 - New People Center, San Francisco, California

By , About.com Guide

VIZ Pictures founder Seiji Horibuchi couldn't have asked for a more beautiful, sunny summer day to open the doors of New People Center in historic Japantown in San Francisco. A project four years in the making, New People Center opened its doors in August 2009, with four floors of Japanese pop culture, art, film and fashion.

To kick things off with a bang, New People Center opened with a street festival called the J-Pop Summit Festival, featuring live bands, art demonstrations, fashion shows and the red carpet West Coast premiere of 20th Century Boys: Beginning of the End, with special guest Takako Tokiwa who pays Yukiji in the film based on Naoki Urasawa's manga.
