FanimeCon has a reputation for attracting some very special guests from Japan, including frequent visits from fan-favorite anime studio GAINAX (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren Lagann). This time, the focus was squarely on Hiroyuki Yamaga, the Executive Director of this popular anime studio, and the world premiere of the Gurren Lagann documentary by Mario Hirasaka. A few lucky fans were also able to attend a special, invitation-only reception for Yamaga-sensei and the GAINAX crew.
