Influenced by rock and old school punk bands like Hanoi Rocks and Johnny Thunders, Yokohama-based J-Rock / punk band The Emeralds came to rock the Hawaii Convention Center after several shows at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. This visit to Kawaii-Kon marked their second time playing for Hawaii fans and Osuke, Kazuya and Akio were eager to play for fans who enjoyed their show in 2008.
According to the translator who accompanied The Emeralds, "Most times, they play at venues that are 21 and over, but here they can play for many young people." She continued, "The last time they played here, there were a lot of young people in the audience. For many of them, it was their first rock show, so (The Emeralds) were so moved by this."
