SakuranNew York City-based manga publisher Vertical Inc. will be bringing yet another Japanese comics creator to a North American event. This time, they're hosting Moyoco Anno, the creator of Sakuran, Happy Mania, Flowers and Bees, and Sugar Sugar Rune at New York Comic-Con 2012.

Anno will be making several appearances at NYCC (which runs from Thursday, October 11 - Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan). If you're going to the show, mark your calendar and make plans to meet her, at her first appearance at an East Coast show. According to the NYCC website, here are Anno-sensei's scheduled appearances:

  • Vertical, Inc. Presents: Moyoco Anno - Saturday, October 13, 11:00 am - 12:00 noon, Room 1A06
  • Autograph ticket giveaway for Moyoco Anno, Danny Choo and Yoshitaka Amano - Saturday, October 13, and Sunday, October 14 at 8:00 am, Queue Hall, 1C (note: tickets are limited, and fans often queue up early to get their shot at getting one.

NY Comic-ConAnno is known for her depiction of strong, complex and often outspoken female characters, who are far from your typical shojo or josei manga heroines. From the manic single girl desperately looking for love in all the wrong places in Happy Mania, to the young witches who find that maintaining their friendship as they compete to wield their magical powers in Sugar Sugar Rune, the over-the-top matchmakers in Flowers and Bees, and the headstrong courtesan in Sakuran, Anno depicts female characters who are passionate and anything but predictable.

You can find out more about Sakuran at Vertical's website, and be sure to follow their Twitter feed and Facebook page for more updates on Moyoco Anno events at New York Comic-Con!

If you've made plans to attend NYCC but don't have tickets -- you should hop on that right away. At this time, one-day tickets for Saturday are sold out, and 3-day and 4-day passes are only available in limited quantities via select NYC retail shops and comic stores. You can get updates on ticket availability at the NYCC website.
