While Sailor Moon continued its reign at the top of this week's New York Times Graphic Books Manga Bestseller List, there were also a lot of notable newcomers to the top 10, including two more titles from Kodansha, one from VIZ Media, and three new titles from Seven Seas Manga.
What makes the Seven Seas titles so notable is that it's the first time any of these titles have made an appearance in the top 10, much less three from Seven Seas at one time. Once published by the now defunct ADV Manga, Gunslinger Girl by Yu Aida is back, this time in double-sized omnibus editions. This dark, violent tale of a young girl who is given a second chance at life as a part-cybernetic assassin is also available on DVD from FUNimation.
The other Seven Seas debuts include another omnibus, the third collection of the adventures of Amazing Agent Luna by Nunzio DeFillipis, Christina Weir and Shiei, and the first double-sized volume of a brand new series from Kaoru Shintani (creator of Area 88). Young Miss Holmes Casebook is a charming all-ages series featuring the savvy sleuthing niece of legendary detective Sherlock Holmes.
Also new in the NYT Manga Top 10 this week are the latest volumes of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney and Ninja Girls (both from Kodansha Comics) and House of Five Leaves by Natsume Ono from VIZ Media.
