As the year comes to an end, many comics critics and blogs have been posting their picks for the best graphic novels, comics, and yes, manga released in 2011. But which manga titles made the cut most often?
To answer that question, I started tallying up the results from "Best of 2011" lists from across the web, and pulled out the top 10 titles that made it on the most critics' lists. So here you go: this year's edition of the Best Manga As Chosen by Comics Critics.
So what is topping the list (so far)? Shigeru Mizuki's wartime memoir, Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths from Drawn and Quarterly. Following close behind is my fave for 2011, the very entertaining manga about wine, The Drops of God by Tadashi Agi and Shu Okimoto from Vertical. Also at the top of the heap: the exquisitely drawn A Bride's Story by Kaoru Mori from Yen Press.
You can see the rest of the top 10 here. Keep in mind that this is only a snapshot of what the results are as of today -- as more "best of 2011" lists roll in, I'll be adding them to the tally, which means that a few titles may move up, and may move down as more 'votes' come in.
So do you agree with the critics? What would you choose as your favorite manga of 2011? Add your comments below!
