San Diego Comic-Con 2010 is coming up fast! While manga isn't the main focus of this humungous comics / sci-fi / movies / toys / games / pop culture fest, there's a lot of events to keep fans of Japanese anime and manga busy, from the time the doors open for Preview Night on Wednesday, July 21 until the doors close on at the end of the day on Sunday, July 25.
San Francisco-based publisher / distributor Last Gasp will be hosting several artists at their booth (#1616), but for manga fans, the main attraction will be several signing sessions featuring Junko Mizuno. Besides signing copies of her books, including Pure Trance and Little Fluffy Gigolo Pelu, Mizuno will also have limited edition prints available for sale created especially for Comic-Con.
This new print features Pelu and a cute/sexy femme fatale, and is a digital offset print with embossing. The prints will be available in sets of two, in a limited edition of 60 sets. Last Gasp Associate Publisher Colin Turner wasn't able to share the price for these prints just yet, but mentioned that they'd be "very reasonably priced."
Mizuno will be appearing at the Last Gasp booth #1616 on these dates/times:
- Thursday, July 22 - 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
- Friday, July 23 - noon - 2:00 pm
- Saturday, July 24 - 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Also of interest: artist Camilla D'Errico (creator of Helmet Girls, Tanpopo and Avril Lavigne's Make 5 Wishes) is also scheduled for some signings at the Last Gasp booth:
- Thursday, July 22 - 2:00 - 3:00 pm
Other artists scheduled to appear at the Last Gasp booth include artists Ron English, Joe Ledbetter and Buff Monster. See Last Gasp's full schedule of their Comic-Con events and promotions on their blog.
In addition to the signings, Last Gasp is also offering fans a chance to shoot pics and play Comic-Con Bingo for prizes! It's easy -- just print out a copy of the Last Gasp Comic-Con bingo card and while you're at the show, hunt for the people who personify the descriptions on the various bingo squares. Take pics of these characters with your camera or cell phone, get enough to complete a row, and BINGO! Take your completed card and pics to the Last Gasp booth, show it to the staff, and you could win some schwell prizes like toys, buttons, posters, and much more.
While you're there, check out some of the new and cool art books, graphic novels and collectible goodies for sale at Last Gasp, or pick up their latest catalog. If you're especially good, you might even get to see a preview of their upcoming manga release, The Strange Tale of Panorama Island by Suehiro Maruo. Can't make it to Comic-Con?
