Friday in L.A.: Aurora Sells Off Yaoi Manga At Sacrifice Prices

By , About.com GuideFebruary 21, 2010

Follow me on:

I Shall Never Return Vol. 5Torrance, California-based manga publisher Aurora Publishing announced that they'll be holding a special Yaoi Manga night on Friday, February 26th, 2010 from 8:30 - 10:00 pm at Anime Jungle in downtown Los Angeles.

So what makes this a "yaoi manga" event? The ad promises that they'll be offering "50 rare doujinshis," DVDs and a whole lot of Deux Press boys love manga at almost 90% off the original retail price.

No, that's not a typo. 90% percent off. Aurora is offering complete sets of some of their completed series at near sacrifice prices. Here's some examples of the outrageous deals they'll be offering:

I Shall Never Return Vol. 1-5 by Kazuna Uchida
Original cover price per volume: $12.95
Event special price: $7.00 for set of 5 volumes
($1.40 each, a savings of 90%)

Say Please, Lovers and Souls, Two of Hearts by Kano Miyamoto
Original cover price per volume $12.95
Event special price: $5.00 for set of 3 volumes
($1.65 each, a savings of 88%)

Future Lovers Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 by Saika Kunieda
Original cover price per volume $12.95
Event special price: $3.00 for set of 2 volumes
($1.50 each, a savings of 89%)

Seduce Me After the Show & Red Blinds the Foolish by est em
Original cover price per volume $12.95
Event special price: $3.00 for set of 2 volumes
($1.50 each, a savings of 89%)

While this offers Southern California fans a great deal, fans from elsewhere can also take advantage of savings by mail ordering sale books directly from Aurora via the order form posted on their Valentine's Day sale page. As they say on their sale page:

"We are offering super saving package deals. I mean, they're practically FREE. Look below for some of the most insane deals you will find this year."

Maid in HeavenIt's been almost a year since Aurora started offering their existing stock of books at discount prices directly to fans. Back in March 2009, it started with a half-off sale, that was followed by a "back to school" sale in August and a similar sale at Yaoi-Con 2009 in October, then a "Holiday Sale" in December.

Meanwhile, the last new release put out by Aurora was back in September 2009, with Cigarette Kisses by Nase Yamato and Spicy But Sweet by Naduki Koujima.

The only sign that Aurora is doing more than just clearing out their remaining titles was their note that they've restocked Maid in Heaven by Hisami Shimada, a book that's been out of print for the past few months.

Otherwise, Aurora's year-long campaign to sell their books at outrageously low prices and their general lack of new releases seem to indicate that this company isn't looking to pick up the pace anytime soon.

My advice to fans? If you were intrigued at all by any of the Aurora / Deux Press / Luv-Luv titles released over the last two years, I'd suggest you buy them now, while you can, because you never know what the next bit of news (good or bad) from Aurora might be. If nothing else, it seems like they could use a little love right about now.
