One of the nice changes I've noticed in 2009 was the arrival of more kid-friendly manga titles. Between Udon Entertainment's Udon Kids imprint and VIZ Media's VIZ Kids line, there was a noticeable increase of fun all-ages titles on the shelves this year. Check out the 10 nominees in the Best New All-Ages Manga Readers' Poll, and see - there's stuff for boys and girls alike and they don't all have Saturday morning TV cartoon tie-ins and trading cards to go with them either!
The 10 nominees in the all-ages manga category includes lots of tried-and-true characters - ninjas, cute critters, princesses, dinosaurs and robots - but they're all done with a very manga twist. The fairy in Fairy Idol Kanon wants to help three girls become pop singers. The robot in Leave It To PET is lazy and accident-prone. And the animals in Animal Academy? They're so, soo cute!
