Manga Review: Moyasimon Reminds Us That Fungi Are Our Friends

Moyasimon Vol. 1Last week, I made my picks for the Best New Manga of 2009, and one of my top choices for the year was Moyasimon: Tales of Agriculture, Masayuki Ishikawa's eccentric yet entertaining manga series from Del Rey Manga about an agriculture college student who can see bacteria. Very cute and charming bacteria, but bacteria nonetheless.

With all the anti-bacterial wipes, sprays, tissues and hand lotions out there, one would assume that all bacteria are bad for you. But the very cute microbes of Moyasimon are here to remind you that fungi can be your friends.

Check out my review of Moyasimon Volume 1, and see why it was one of my all-time favorite new titles for 2009, and why I'm grateful that it's not a scratch n' sniff book.

Also, check out the rest of the 25 Best New Manga of 2009. Your fave didn't make the list? Not to worry -- the annual Readers' Polls are in the works, so you'll have your chance to have your say soon!
