NY Times Manga Bestsellers: Vampire Knight Fulfills Fans' Hunger for Romance

By November 28, 2009

Follow me on:

Vampire Knight Vol. 8Perhaps riding on a wave of interest in all things related to bloodsucking hunks, the latest volume of Vampire Knight tops the New York Times Graphic Books list for the second week in a row, fending off challenges from the latest volumes of Naruto and Ouran High School Host Club.

Also, a nod since one is due, The New York Times has finally seen fit to spotlight a manga title in the introductions to the Graphic Books Bestsellers list. Sure, it took them 36 weeks, and a different writer (Adam Kepler instead of usual scribe George Gene Gustines), but hey, it's a step in the right direction.

Perhaps due to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the manga list for the week ending November 21 is an exact replica of the list for the week ending on November 14. But since I missed posting last week's list, I give you the November 14 list, until the Times figures out the snafu and posts the corrected top 10 for November 21.
