Marvel Meets Manga? Junko Mizuno's 'Strange' Spiderman Tale

Way back in June 2008, Marvel editor C.B. Cebulski previewed a few tantalizing images of manga artist Junko Mizuno's take on everyone's favorite web-slinger Spiderman (and his wife Mary Jane) enjoying a moment of domestic bliss.

Now this project is finally seeing the light of day as Marvel Comics posted on their website two preview pages of Mizuno's story called "Welcome to the Spider Town." This story and others will be featured in Strange Tales #1, a new anthology comic due out at comic shops on September 2, 2009.

The article also included an interview with Mizuno-sensei. In the brief chat, she reveals the essential plot of her short Spidey story and her thoughts on Marvel Comics:

"I'm sorry, but I've never read Marvel comics! As I grew up, I mainly read Japanese comics for girls, but not the romantic ones. I always preferred comics with fantasy, adventure and action. They might have something in common with Marvel comics. I enjoyed reading the long character bios (for Marvel's characters) before I started working for the anthology, though. It was very surprising for me to learn that the universe is so complicated and elaborate."

Other artists included in Strange Tales include Peter Bagge (Hate) putting his spin on The Incredible Hulk, Dash Shaw (Bottomless Bellybutton) takes on Dr. Strange and Paul Pope (Heavy Liquid) draws a melange of Marvel heroes and villains.
