Summer Reading List: 12 Fun, Kid-Friendly Manga

Tuesday June 16, 2009

Summer's here and school's out, so that means bye text books, hello graphic novels! While the vast majority of manga published in the U.S. is geared toward teens and young adults, this year has brought us a bumper crop of kid-friendly manga.

From the debut of Udon Entertainment's new Udon Kids line and the ever-growing VIZ Kids roster to the upcoming arrival of more kid-pleasing titles from Del Rey Manga and the return of Yotsuba&! courtesy of Yen Press, it's a great summer to introduce young readers to the joys of manga.

Get started with this delightful dozen of all-ages comics, 12 Fun Kid-Friendly Manga. From the ditzy dinos of Dinosaur Hour and loveable pocket monsters of Pokemon to the tweenie / fairy pop idol fables of Fairy Idol Kanon and sports action of Ninja Baseball Kyuma! there's great reading ahead for boys and girls alike.

There's more to come as I dig a little deeper into my pile of kid-friendly fun for younger readers this week. Hang out, and stay tuned for more reviews to come.
