The first volume of the Ax alternative manga anthology won't hit the stores until December 2009, but Top Shelf is giving readers an early preview by providing an 22-page excerpt from Love's Bride, a short story by Yoshihiro Tatsumi.
Love's Bride is a story originally featured in the Japanese edition of Ax, and features the classic Tatsumi scenario: a beleaguered working man deals with betrayal and heartbreak, in a surprising and slightly disturbing way.
Tatsumi-sensei is just one of 33 artists who will be featured in the 400-page alternative manga anthology. Other artists include Kazuichi Hanawa (Doing Time) and Yusaku Hanakuma (Tokyo Zombie) and Takashi Nemoto (Monster Men Bureiko Lullaby) and several other creators who will be making their US / English debut with this volume. All stories were selected by Ax editor Mitsuhiro Asakawa and edited for the English edition by author and comics creator Sean Michael Wilson.
You can keep up with production updates on this book by checking out editor Wilson's blog, or check Top Shelf's blog for more news on this exciting new book now in the works. You can also pre-order your copy of Ax now from Top Shelf.
