TokyoPop, UClick Offer Free Dramacon iPhone Manga on iTunes

Monday March 23, 2009

I posted a review of my impressions of the iPhone version of Dramacon by Svetlana Chmakova in early February -- now it's your chance to give Uclick and TokyoPop's version of the mobile phone manga experience a try. Why? Because now the first segment of Dramacon Volume 1 for the iPhone or iPod Touch is available for free from Apple's iTunes App store.

According to the press release posted on PRWeb, the rationale behind making the first of four chapters available free (which normally costs a 99 cents per chapter) is simple: to turn the merely curious mobile phone-toting manga fan into a consumer of this new digital graphic novel format.

"We want users to have the chance to try the reader for free and experience it for themselves, then check out our library of more than 100 titles and find more great comics," says Uclick CEO Douglas Edwards. TokyoPop Senior Editor Lillian Diaz-Przybyl added, "Svetlana's work has touched hearts and tickled funny-bones worldwide, so Dramacon was an obvious choice when it came to launching a new series through the App Store. We look forward to both current fans and new readers discovering the joy of Dramacon in this exciting new format!"

Now it's practically painless for any iPhone or iPod Touch user to give this new mobile manga experience a shot. To get started, go to the Uclick Web App by typing Uclick.com into the Safari browser or visit the App Store on the iPhone or on iTunes.

After you've sampled Dramacon, come on back here and share your impressions with fellow fans. Was it fun and easy to use? Would you download more mobile manga? Is this an idea whose time has come, or should it go back to the drawing board for a little more tinkering? Sound off and share!
