As the Japan Society Gallery's blurb puts it, "KRAZY! is New York's first major exhibition featuring the Japanese phenomenon of anime, manga and video games." True to its billing, this abbreviated version of the original exhibit curated by the Vancouver Art Gallery brings together showings of Akira, Patlabor 2: The Movie and Super Dimension Fortress Macross with cutting edge manga by Taiyo Matsumoto (Tekkon Kinkreet), Moyoco Anno (Happy Mania, Sugar Sugar Rune), Yuichi Yokoyama (New Engineering) and Junko Mizuno (Pure Trance) and video games for a sensory overload of modern Japanese pop culture, now on display at the Japan Society in New York City through June 14, 2009.
But without the Western comics, animation, video games and comics-inspired art that was included in the original Vancouver Art Gallery incarnation of this exhibit, is the NYC incarnation of this multimedia exhibit not as 'krazy' as it could be? Guest reviewers Evan Minto (Editor-in-Chief of Ani-Gamers) and Scott VonSchilling (Editor of Anime Almanac) checked out the opening night of this show, and came back with this two-fisted, tag-team review of Krazy! The Delirious World of Anime + Manga + Video Games.
