When manga publisher Broccoli Books announced that they'd be closing up shop at the end of 2008, their announcements mentioned that the licenses for their graphic novels would be reverted back to their Japanese licensors and that negotiations were underway to find new homes for these titles. Now Aurora Publishing has announced that they'll be publishing Cigarette Kisses, a yaoi manga by Nase Yamato in "the second half of 2009" as part of their Deux Press line-up of yaoi manga.
Broccoli's boys love imprint, Boysenberry Books published Pet on Duty by Yamato-sensei as one of its debut titles, and slated Cigarette Kisses for release in July 2008. But that release date came and went without much fanfare, leaving this book missing in action.
Deux Press, the boys love imprint of Aurora Publishing has already added Take Me To Heaven, another BL manga by Yamato-sensei to their 2009 line-up, so taking on Cigarette Kisses seems to be an easy fit for this up-and-coming manga publisher.
When I asked Michael Perry, Marketing Manager for Aurora Publishing whether they were considering picking up more Broccoli titles, he replied, "I know we aren't picking up any titles they have already started releasing, so probably not." But he also added, "I can't say that for 100%."
So what's Cigarette Kisses about? Here's the plot synoposis from Boysenberry's web page:
Yusuke and Soji were close ever since junior high, even to the point of being something more—but Yusuke was devastated when Soji suddenly announced that he was getting married. Three years later, Yusuke and Soji meet up again at their company smoke room, and though their love for cigarettes has brought them together, their love for each other remains unspoken. With the conflicted Soji trapped between marital obligations and true love, and his charming rival, Masahito, trying to replace the hole in Yusuke's heart, what is Yusuke to do? Is Soji another guilty addiction that he'll never be able to quit?
