Manga Review: COWA! Offers Clever, Kid-Friendly Comics
While the Halloween candy are half-priced at the supermarkets this weekend, the monster fun doesn't have to only happen once a year. Akira Toriyama's clever and kid-friendly manga COWA! was published by Shonen Jump Manga / VIZ Media in July, but its such a fun read, this vampire / monster manga is a year-round treat.
Toriyama is best known for creating Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z -- but while his manga has lots of exciting fight scenes, what makes his stories so great is that Toriyama-sensei has a terrific sense of humor. Like Chuck Jones' Bugs Bunny cartoons, Toriyama's manga is often full of witty pop culture references that can leave both kids and adults in stitches.
Compared to his multi-volume series Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z or even Dr. Slump, COWA! is a one-shot, so while you couldn't exactly call it 'epic,' it is a quick tasty bite of something fun.Check out my review of COWA! and see if this kid-friendly tale about a half-vampire / half-were koala boy, a ghost and a retired sumo wrestler has the right stuff to call itself all-ages entertainment, or if its something that's strictly for kids.
