I've been chatting up this book since January, so I'm super excited that this week marks the in-store debut of Bat-Manga! The Secret History of Batman in Japan, the long-awaited collection of Japanese Batman comics by Jiro Kuwata collected by Chip Kidd, Saul Ferris and Geoff Spear.
To celebrate, Pantheon Books and Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles are hosting a book release bash with Chip Kidd on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 from 7:00 - 10:00 pm. Kidd will be on hand (at his only Los Angeles appearance to promote this book) to meet, greet and sign hardcover and softcover editions of Bat Manga! He'll also be giving a presentation featuring stories about the secret origins of this project and hopefully, he'll give one of his dramatic readings of a story from Bat Manga! If it's anything like Kidd's hilarious slide presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, this is sure to be an entertaining evening.
As if you needed more excuses to check it out, the party will feature drinks from Asahi (as in the beer) and snacks from Malo (as in Silverlake's hip tacqueria restaurant). This event is free and open to all.
Meltdown Comics is located at 7522 Sunset Boulevard, which is roughly between Fairfax Avenue and La Brea Avenue in the Hollywood-ish side of Los Angeles. For more info about this event, check out Meltdown's blog or call the shop at (323) 851-7223.
