NY Anime Festival '08: Sunday's Manga Highlights

Day Three of the 2nd New York Anime Festival finds the show winding down toward its end time of 5:00 pm on Sunday -- but there's still more for manga fans to check out today, including a Manga Publisher's Roundtable, where industry pros talk about the state of the business, Yen Press' Industry Panel, where they'll hopefully unveil some new manga joy for 2009, appearances by the Japanese couture designers behind Baby The Stars Shine Bright and anime voice actress Rie Tanaka. Here's the dealio:

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

  • 11:15 am - 12:15 pm: The State of the Manga Industry, Manga Panel Room 1A24
    Leading luminaries of the manga publishing biz share their thoughts on the hits and misses of 2008, plus their take on trends to watch in 2009.
  • 11:15 am - 12:15 pm: Yen Press Publishers Panel, Manga Panel Room 1A24
    With the arrival of Yen Plus and the Haruhi Suzumiya manga in 2008, Yen Press is sure to have some newsworthy announcements for 2009.
  • 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm: Spotlight on Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Pop Culture Panel Room 1A21
    Meet the designers behind the cute couture house Baby the Stars Shine Bright as they share their latest creations for Lolita lovelies.
  • 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm: Anime Spotlight on Aria, TV & OAV Screening Room 1A07
    Take a peek at the anime adapation of Kozue Amano's Aria, a sweet, slightly futuristic story about young girl gondoliers in Neo Venezia, a Martian recreation of Venice, Italy.
  • 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Japanamerica with Roland Kelts, Manga Panel Room 1A24
    Meet author and pop culture commentator Roland Kelts as he discusses the impact of Japanese pop culture in America.
