In Chaco Abeno and Naoki Hisaya's bittersweet manga sola Volume 1 from Broccoli Books, a high school photographer who shoots images of the sky meets a pretty girl who lives a dark, solitary life in an abandoned church. What the smitten young man later finds out is that his would-be girlfriend is 350-years old and she's got some very powerful enemies who'd like to see her dead.

Plot-wise, this all sounds promising, and sola does have a few hints of interesting plot twists to come. But instead of exploring the darker depths of this supernatural set-up, this creative team settle for generic, cutesy-wootsy, one-dimensional characters who'd rather flash their underwear than give readers a real reason to care about what happens to them next.

Check out my review of sola Volume 1, and see if this bittersweet un-vampire manga has enough for readers to sink their teeth into, or is an ultimately a pretty, but empty shell of a story.

I CAN STAND WHEN PEOPLE JUST SIT A ROUND WRITING BAD THING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLES THINGS THAT THEY CREATED HOW ABOUT INSTEAD OF BEING A NEGITIVE PERSON GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OHH AND MAYBE THE AUTHORS WANT THE BOOK TO BE A LITTLE BIT MORE DOWN TO EARTH IN INSTEAD OF BEING A DARK SCARY DARK MANGA!!!!!!!!!!!!
i thought that sola was a very balanced book between real life and super-natural fantasy and i can’t wait for the next one!!!!!!!!!

Well, a review is just my personal take on a story, based on my taste. I wasn’t so charmed by this story compared to others that I’ve read, but it’s not bad either. I’m glad that you enjoyed it and feel passionate about defending it, because your opinions can help turn other readers on to it.

That said, I don’t apologize for writing some negative reviews. If I loved everything equally, then my positive reviews would mean much, much less.
