As Dark Horse Editor Carl Horn likes to remind us, the vast majority of mainstream American readers have never read manga. So it was an exciting development to see the Los Angeles Times interview Bleach creator Tite Kubo and review Bleach in the LA Times Review of Books recently.
Befitting L.A.'s movie-centric bent, writer Charles Solomon asks Kubo-sensei about any plans to create a live-action movie version of Bleach, an idea that Kubo-sensei immediately shot down:
"If it were possible to do Bleach as a live-action movie, I wouldn't have drawn the manga. I want to draw something that can only be done as a manga."
While a live action movie version of Bleach isn't in the works, the first full-length anime movie, Bleach: Memories of Nobody will be out on DVD from VIZ Media on October 14, 2008.
