Manga Review: Nephilim Gives Femmes Fantasy Fanservice

Sunday June 22, 2008

Male by day and female by night, Nephilim are a mysterious and bewitching tribe of warriors. When dashing soldier Guy views Abel in her female form, he can't help but fall in love. Trouble is, Nephilim are sworn to kill anyone who sees their true form.

It sounds like a promising premise for a shojo manga adventure fantasy, but Nephilim Volume 1 by Anna Hamasaki from Aurora Publishing takes another route. Instead of exploring some fertile ground for drama and character development, it settles for bodice-ripping, sexually-charged encounters that are sizzling, but aren't quite explicit enough to get an "M - Mature" rating.

Read my review of Nephilim Volume 1, and see if this fantasy adventure manga with a dash gender-bending romance is a fun guilty pleasure or just fanservice for femmes.
