Manga Review: Love for Dessert's Sugar Crash

Friday June 20, 2008

This July marks the first anniversary of Aurora Publishing's debut in the U.S. manga market. Since their debut showing at Anime Expo 2007, Aurora has branched out with their Luv Luv imprint featuring josei manga adult romances. Their latest release, Love for Dessert is another collection of short and sexy stories featuring confused twenty-somethings trying to figure out that love thing.

On one hand, the art is pleasant and there's some tender moments of romance here and there. But on the other hand, these short 30-page stories tend to rely on a single recipe that is repeated with only slight variations six times over. It's mostly sweet and simple, but without real character development, these romances end up feeling rushed, and more slapped together than sensual.

Check out my review of Love For Dessert by Hana Aoi from Luv Luv Press, and see if this one-shot josei manga confection will have you craving its sweet love stories, or if it's just a fleeting, empty calorie diversion.
