Manga Tour Announces Doujinshi Pricing, Tour Discount
Pop Japan Travel has announced some additional details about their Mind Over Manga Tour -- namely the pricing for to get your own comics translated into Japanese and printed doujinshi-style so you can sell your work at Comitia. Comitia is a major semi-annual independent comics festival held at Tokyo Big Sight, the home of epic otaku events such as Comic Market (a.k.a. Comiket, as seen in Genshiken and Comic Party). The tour runs from August 21 - 27, 2008, with the option to extend your trip several days to take in optional tours of Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima.
The "print and sell your own comics" option is what makes the Mind Over Manga tour unique. Pop Japan Travel, in partnership with their parent company Digital Manga Publishing is giving aspiring manga artists a rare opportunity to not just see a Japanese comics show, but participate and sell their comics to Japanese fans.
The doujinshi printing option is optional, and there are additional fees, depending on the number of pages in your comic book and how many copies you want to print. The full schedule of pricing is available, with prices starting at $380 for 50 copies of a 20 page book with color cover, with translation and typesetting services available at $8 per page and 6 cents per word.
Besides Comitia, the Mind Over Manga Tour offers several other unique and fun experiences, including a lesson with a professional manga artist, a trip to the Ghibli Museum, home of Totoro and other favorite creations by animator Hayao Miyazaki and of course, visits to Tokyo's otaku wonderland, Akihabara.
If you sign up before Monday, June 2, Pop Japan Travel is offering a $100 discount off the tour price. And even if you miss this deadline, you can still sign up for this tour until July 14, 2008, provided there's still spaces left. Pop Japan's Spring tours, Fujoshi Paradise / Tokyo Dark Side were sold out prior to the end of the reservation period.
