NY Comic-Con: Best of the Rest Manga Roundup

Lots of new manga announcements and new manga made their debut at New York Comic-Con last weekend. Here's a few additional highlights, as reported by bloggers across the Web:

DMP: Tezuka, Speed Racer and More Yaoi Manga
With their deluxe boxed set of Tatsuo Yoshida's original Speed Racer: Mach Go Go Go! manga on sale at NYCC, Digital Manga Publishing announced another classic manga release, Swallowing the Earth by Osamu Tezuka, and of course, lots and lots of new yaoi manga.

CMX Manga: Ballad of a Shinigami Plus 7 More New Manga
With a diverse roster of shonen and shojo manga titles, CMX Manga announced 8 new manga series, including Astral Project, written by Garon Tsuchiya, the author of Old Boy and Ballad of a Shinigami, a shojo manga series by Asuka Izumi.

Vertical: Dororo Debuts to Strong Sales
Vertical previewed copies of their latest Osamu Tezuka release Dororo at New York Comic-Con, prior to its official release on April 29, and reported strong sales for this first volume. Dororo is a samurai-action/adventure fantasy story about a boy born without 48 body parts because his father sacrificed them to demons to further his personal ambitions. Less avant-garde graphically than prior Vertical Tezuka releases, Dororo is a shonen manga story that's still mind-blowing even decades after its original release.

Also check out the Vertical website to see the very unconventional cover art for their upcoming release of their other major Tezuka release for 2008, Black Jack.

TokyoPop: New color graphic novels, mobile manga and Warcraft
TokyoPop had a whole mess of announcements to coincide with NYCC: A three-year extension of their deal with Blizzard Entertainment to produce graphic novels based on the popular Warcraft and StarCraft games. New full-color global manga graphic novels to be released starting in 2009. And their deal with GoComics to release TokyoPop titles such as Princess Ai as serialized mobile phone comics.

Dark Horse: Clover by CLAMP Returns
Dark Horse gives this CLAMP manga the omnibus treatment, by releasing a 500+ page super-sized edition with color pages too. But don't hold your breath. Still no new news about the CLAMP mangettes project, which is now set for a 2009 release.

Look for more updates on these upcoming releases, plus a report on new releases from Fanfare / Ponent Mon soon.
