2/12 SF Event: Wendy Pini at The Cartoon Art Museum

Follow me on:

This Tuesday, February 12, I'll be interviewing Wendy Pini at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, after an evening screening of Independents, a comics documentary by director / filmmaker Chris Brandt. The screening will start at 7 pm, and will be followed by a Q&A session and interview / conversation with Pini. I'll be chatting with her about her stories, her long and amazing career, how manga has influenced her work, and what she has in store for her fans in the months to come.

While many comics fans have known and loved Pini's work on Elfquest for years, she has been exploring new avenues for storytelling with her multimedia Web comic, Masque of the Red Death, now featured on Go! Comi's Web site, with a graphic novel to come in Summer 2008.

Pini, along with other innovative comics creators such as Craig Thompson (Blankets), Jim Woodring (Frank), Shannon Wheeler (Too Much Coffee Man) and Tony Millionaire (Maakies) to just name a few, were interviewed about their creative process, and how they "have paved their own roads to success as self-published graphic novelists."

Admission for this very special evening with filmmaker Chris Brandt and Wendy Pini is $5, or free for Cartoon Art Museum members. The Cartoon Art Museum is at 655 Mission Street, San Francisco, California. For more information, call 415-CAR-TOON.

Here's a preview of Independents, which is now available on DVD too:
