2007 must have been a very good year to be Svetlana Chmakova: A nomination for an Eisner Award. Numerous accolades for her shojo OEL manga series, Dramacon from comics and non-comics press alike. And as Dramacon wrapped up with Volume 3 in December with a celebration at the TokyoPop booth at the New York Anime Festival, there was a huge banner and several events hosted by Yen Press to promote her next series, Night School.

Night School was described as an "urban fantasy" about a school for witches and vampires, and will be the flagship feature in the new monthly manga magazine, Yen Plus, which will hit the newsstands in Summer 2008.

Yep, there's lots to keep Chmakova busy in 2008, so I'm glad I caught up with her at NYAF. Check out my interview with Svetlana Chmakova as we talk about Dramacon, get a preview of what she has in store for readers with Night School, and discuss her future plans for other stories yet to be told.

Check out Night School, and the other 19 manga, books and magazines you'll want to read this year with the 2008 Buzz List: 20 Most Anticipated Manga. Also, learn why Dramacon got the nod for 2007's Best Current / Continuing OEL Manga Series and which other manga series was tied with it for the title.
