Review: Uzumaki Puts Bizarre Spin on Horror Manga

Friday November 2, 2007

I'm a bit dizzy from my post-Halloween sugar rush, or is it because I've been re-reading Uzumaki? Volume 1 of Junji Ito's horror manga classic recently resurfaced in U.S. bookstores in a new 'n improved edition from VIZ Signature.

Originally released in the U.S. by VIZ in 2001, Uzumaki: Spiral Into Horror is a haunting series of short stories about a Japanese seaside village and its citizens' descent into insanity. As each villager dies in a different bizarre and horrific way, their deaths all seem to have one thing in common: an obsession with spirals.

Beautifully drawn, inventive and incredibly creepy, Uzumaki is one of those manga titles you won't be able to forget, even if you tried. Read our review of Uzumaki Volume 1, and maybe you too will be sucked in by the spiral's supernatural allure.
