Autumn is here, and that means it's football season once more! While Japan has a well-documented love of baseball, soccer and even basketball, American-style football is a relatively new sport for Japanese fans. One series that's out to change that is Eyeshield 21, a popular sports manga series about the thrill of victory and the bone-crunching agony of defeat that only American football can deliver.
I only recently picked up this series from Shonen Jump Advanced / VIZ Media and can honestly say that while I'm not a huge football fan, I'm completely won over by Eyeshield 21. It's funny, fresh and filled with action-packed art, plus lots of info about football fundamentals that make the game accessible and interesting to not-so-sporty sorts like myself. Take some time out to check out my introduction to Eyeshield 21 by Riichiro Inagaki and Yusuke Murata and see if it doesn't make a fan out of you too.
