Friday at Comic-Con: Shonen Jump, TokyoPop and Eisners

Day two of Comic-Con dawns with a full schedule of events sure to attract manga fans. Panel events on tap for today:

  • 11:30 am - 12:30 pm: Shonen Jump Evolution at Room 2 - Shonen Jump magazine editors will be on hand to share news about new series and changes at the popular shonen manga magazine.
  • 12:30 - 1:30 pm: TokyoPop Industry Panel at Room 10 - TokyoPop editors will be announcing several new titles for 2008, and highlighting new products including their mobile comics and online videos.
  • 4:30 - 5:30 pm: Seven Seas Manga at Room 10 - The folks who brought you Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl and BoogiePop will be announcing new series from Japanese and global manga creators for the rest of 2007 and beyond.
  • 5:30 - 6:30 pm: Yen Press at Room 10 - The Comic-Con debut of Yen Press, a new manga publishing company led by Kurt Hassler, the former manga and sci-fi book buyer for Borders. Look for previews of their upcoming releases for September 2007 through early 2008.
  • 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Lost in Translation at Room 3 - Translating manga and manhwa from the original Japanese and Korean is more than just a word-for-word exchange. Translators for VIZ Media andDel Rey Manga, plus Jason Thompson, the former Shonen Jump magazine editor and author of the upcoming book Manga: The Complete Guide, explain the cultural nuances and unique challenges they face to keep series such as Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles and Full Metal Alchemist true to the spirit of the originals.

And on the evening agenda, there's lots of anime to see plus the announcement of this year's Eisner Award winners:

  • 8:30 - 11:30 am: 2007 Eisner Awards ceremony at Ballroom 20 - Comics industry luminaries come together to honor the best of the best from American and international comics creators. Check out our preview of manga nominees for this year's awards. Doors open at 7:30 for professionals and at 8:15 for attendees.
  • 10:15 am - 1:20 am: Anime showings in rooms 24BC, 25AB and 25C - See showings of Suzuka, Le Chevalier D'Eon, Midori Days, Black Lagoon and much, much more. See the complete anime schedule for Friday.
