Japanese manga creator Sekihiko Inui made his first U.S. comics convention appearance at FanimeCon in San Jose on Memorial Day weekend. Here to promote his latest English-language graphic novel, Murder Princess, Inui-sensei also announced his latest project, Ratman. This new series inspired by American superheroes will appear in Japan in Shonen Ace magazine in June.
At his Saturday panel appearance, Inui talked about his creative influences, his beginnings in the dojinshi (fan-created comics) scene (which he captured hilariously in his first series, Comic Party) and the challenges that come with creating his own stories and characters.
In contrast to Comic Party (a.k.a. Comipa), which was based on characters from a PC game, Murder Princess is Inui's creation from start to finish. This tale of mistaken identities in a swords and sorcery world is a fun mix of humor, fantasy and action that shows off how much Inui's artwork has evolved since Comipa.
Peek inside Inui-sensei's latest, with our review of Murder Princess Volume 1.
